What is StormSmarts?

StormSmarts is a program focused ​on severe weather awareness and ​education.

Severe weather is always a threat to ​the community and one we see ​almost year-round in West ​Tennessee. By educating everyone ​young and old about severe weather ​and how to stay safe during events, ​we can work to create a safer and ​more prepared community.

In 2023 Across the United States....

353 days (97%) had a probability of thunderstorms.

271 days (74%) had a probability of severe weather.

74 days (20%) had a maximum category of Enhanced.

There were 69 consecutive days with a Slight Risk from Jun 8 to Aug 16.

hail

Most reports of 2+ inch hail during ​summer on record. Largest being 5.9 ​Inches in Sanger, Texas

tornadoes

2nd highest number of March tornadoes ​since 1950. 2023 had 208 March ​tornadoes.

flooding

79 fatalities due to flooding. The leading ​state being California and Pennsylvania ​with 10. The leading activity that led to ​over 50% of fatalities was driving.

What do we offer?

Our primary goal is educating everyone about severe weather and safety. So ​far, this has consisted of online graphics and infographics, and plenty of ​classroom visits from our own meteorologist. Current topics include:

WHERE ARE YOU BASED OUT OF?

StormSmarts is currently based out of Jackson, Tennessee. We ​are trying to limit in-person visits to Western and Middle ​Tennessee for the moment. However, if you are interested in an ​in-person visit and you do not reside in Middle or Western ​Tennessee, please email us at stormsmarts@gmail.com.

HOW CAN I BOOK YOU TO COME SPEAK TO MY CLASS/ ​GROUP?

We are available to come speak most days of the week, year ​round. However, we do need a minimum one week heads-up for ​any visits. To schedule a visit, send an email to ​stormsmarts@gmail.com or send a message to one of our ​social media pages (@StormSmarts). You will be redirected to ​our booking page from there.

HOW CAN I DONATE?

At the moment, we are only receiving ​PayPal donations. You can access our ​PayPal at @StormSmarts or scan the ​QR code to the right.

WHAT DO MY DONATIONS GO TOWARDS?

Any donations will go towards making school visits possible for ​our local public and private schools. This includes paying for ​materials, gas, and time for our meteorologists to teach the ​courses.
